Bathroom Bliss…

Bathroom Bliss…

I find most clients have difficulty channeling a vision for a bathroom. Its not sexy having a conversation with your designer about your daily bathroom habits, so I often mix it up and discuss the “fun” part first. The “general” aesthetic!! Do you prefer a masculine or feminine “vibe”, a dark or light colour scheme, glass and sparkle or matte and subdued surfaces, Modern/traditional or contemporary style? Once I have those few basic questions answered I am armed with the information I need to proceed.

The next set of questions help to generate some excitement and help to determine the final details.

Do you want a 4 or 5 piece bathroom?

What is your flooring preference? Do you like natural stone, porcelain, ceramic, wood…

What type of shower unit are you contemplating, tile or glass enclosure?

What size do you need the shower to be? Do you want a single or double shower space?

What “bells and whistles” are on your dream list? For example:

  • Do you want a steam shower and a rain head? Do you need a wand?
  • Would you like jets in the tub? Is a bathtub even necessary? (This is one of the most common questions I get. The short answer, yes. You should always factor “resale” into your design decisions and most buyers want a tub. If you are a “shower person” include a simple, visually appealing tub that compliments the overall scheme or concept.)
  • Are you hoping for heated flooring, a heated towel bar, central vac access? This list could go on for days!! The good news is that your “budget” will dictate most of the answers. (Sometimes before you even ask the questions.)
  • What type of storage do you need? Do you like open or closed cabinetry or a combination of the two?
  • What are your lighting and electrical requirements? There can never be enough lighting or outlets for me. My general rule is to add as much as you can afford. Remember there will be functional (hair dryers, electric razors etc.) and decorative (ambient lighting) requirements.
  • What is your preference for counter tops? Do you like marble, quartz, granite, formica or stone? Below is an example of  marble

Last but not least, the accessories. In this case we included gorgeous drapery, wallpaper, a stylish chair, a chrome trolley, chandelier, sconces, mirrors, decorative jars and details on the counter. Accent towels finish off this stunning space transforming this previously ordinary bathroom into an en-suite oasis!!!

Bathrooms are a considerable investment, certainly one that will add to your enjoyment and ultimately, the value of your home.

Asking yourself these few simple questions will put you on the right path to the bathroom of your dreams!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!

Hope to see you tomorrow for how to eliminate stress and clutter from your life.
